Some of you may have noticed that the name of this blog has changed. Since I began writing this blog a year or so ago, the name has always been “With Wings As Eagles.” This morning I decided to change that. I will explain why.
One of my favorite passages from the Bible is from the book of Philippians.
Brothers, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14
The new name for this blog is taken directly from this passage: Press On.
But while this new name may be taken from this passage of Scripture, there’s also some other reasoning as to why I chose it. Have you ever heard the expression, “Press on” before? When did you hear it? For me, I both heard and said it quite often during my time in the military. Usually, it was said when something wasn’t going my way or when I was faced with some sort of adversity in life or on the job. As you can imagine with life in the military, that was pretty regularly!
I think the new name really says what this blog is all about. It is about forgetting the past and everything that lies behind us; the hurt, the failures, the mistakes, the pain, the regrets, etc., and moving forward to make a better version of ourselves today than we were yesterday. But as we are laying aside those things of the past and working on ourselves today – to provide a better version of ourselves tomorrow, we can’t forget how the passage above ends: “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” That’s the ultimate goal, folks! The goal is to finish the race and press on toward the prize. What’s the prize? The incredible upward calling that comes from Christ! It isn’t a calling that tells us to stay right where we are and become stagnant. Neither is it a calling that tells us we’re not good enough either. It’s a calling that urges us to press on toward what we were called to do both in and through Christ.
So, there you have it. Pretty simple. The content of this blogging site has not and won’t be changed. If anything, I want to focus a lot more on writing, promoting wellness, and helping those who struggle with mental illness.
Hope everyone that reads this is doing well. I would love to hear any feedback or thoughts you may have regarding this site, this post, or any other posts. Which is your favorite? What would you like to read from me? Until next time, take care of yourselves and please take care of each other.
