“Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Daily Devotional – Waiting on God

I hope for Yahweh, my soul does hope,
And for His word do I wait.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen for the morning,
The watchmen for the morning.

Psalm 130:5-6

Throughout life, we will be brought to different points where we must ask and then wait. Despite what Garth Brooks may sing, there is absolutely no such thing as an “unanswered prayer.” The answer may not be what we think it should be, what we view as fair or just, or what we may think is best for our own life. But believe me when I say, each prayer is heard and each prayer is answered.

What do we do after we ask God for something? Many Christians make the mistake of entering into a waiting period the same way we wait in line at a grocery store or the drive thru at McDonalds. We ask God and then basically say, “It’s in the LORD’s hands now. There’s nothing more I can do.” Wrong!

Waiting on God involves actively listening, praying, spending time in His Word (the Bible), obtaining wise counsel, and seeking His will in the situation.

Waiting on God and the answer is not doing nothing and becoming stagnant.

The answer will come. Sure, it may not be that day, the next day, the next month, or even that year. The other day I wrote this devotional about Abraham and Isaac and we read that Abraham and Sarah waiting YEARS for their answer to prayer. Even after they received their answer through the birth of their son Isaac, they were still tested.

If you’re praying for something and waiting on God to answer, don’t ask and then become distant as if your work in the matter is complete. Draw near to Him. Talk with Him. Seek Him and He will be found.

  1. Thankfulness in prayer is so important. We knows he hears and answers and a grateful heart goes a long way! Also, we need to take time to listen to him. Scriptures help but there is nothing like listening to his voice and following him. Jesus said, “my sheep hear my voice and come at my call. But a stranger’s voice, they do not know.”
