“Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Little Is Much

In the harvest field now ripened
There’s a work for all to do;
Hark! the voice of God is calling
To the harvest calling you.

Little is much when God is in it,
Labor not for wealth or fame;
There’s a crown, and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.

Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem too small and little known?
It is great if God is in it,

And He’ll not forget His own.

When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run,
He will say, if we are faithful,
“Welcome home, My child, well done!”

I grew up in church singing this old hymn, but like many hymns written over the years, I sang the words but didn’t grasp their significance. Throughout the years however, I’ve seen the words ring true in my life. Over and over again, God has proved Himself faithful in the smallest circumstances of my life.

You can read many times in the Bible how God cared for and provided for those who followed Him and were obedient. So many instances of God taking the littlest of things and showing His greatness.

In my own life, the fact that I am where I am today, is a testimony of God’s love and providence. I don’t deserve anything I have. If I lived amongst the poorest of men and died and went to Heaven, I still received more than I deserve.

This blog, for reasons I don’t know, has been read in over thirty-seven countries just this year. When I sat down and started writing in 2022, I would have never thought the simple words of a man in upstate NY, would travel around the world. But little is much when God is in it.

I wouldn’t have thought in 2017 when I retired from the military, that three years later He was going to call me to return to Bible college, and just this year call me to full-time ministry. Yet little is much when God is in it!

Friends, do not ever doubt that God can take the smallest of your circumstances and turn them into something way beyond what you ever imagined. That’s what God does. He did it with a few fish and loaves of bread the size of dinner rolls, and He fed thousands. He did it with some fishermen that turned the world upside down for Christ, and they went from casting nets and catching fish, to preaching the Gospel and changing lives for Jesus. He can do the same with you.

The field is ripe for harvest. There’s work right now to be done. Is the harvest calling you?
